Contrary to popular belief, the Menopause does not happen in one stage.

Most symptoms are suffered during the Perimenopause, which can last for many years.

When women discuss their personal experience of going through the Menopause, they are actually describing what happens during the Perimenopause.

The Menopause occurs when periods stop completely and infertility occurs, whilst the Perimenopause is the time running up to this event, which can happen over many years.

Most women will start to experience slight hormonal changes from around age 40, but some less fortunate may notice subtle changes from their early to mid- thirties.

Which means some women can suffer symptoms for up to 15 years before the Menopause occurs!

The 12 most common symptoms indicating you are suffering from Perimenopause are:

  • Sleep disturbances that occur after you have initially gone to sleep

  • Bouts of unexpected anxiety for no apparent reason

  • Difficulty in concentrating on normal daily tasks

  • Absent-mindedness or forgetfulness

  • Unexplained mood swings

  • Regular and debilitating feelings of total exhaustion

  • Dry skin

  • Dry hair and nails

  • Menstrual irregularities, eg, changes in cycle length (shorter or longer), and bleeding more or less

  • Less vaginal lubrication and lower sex drive

  • Hot flushes

  • Night sweats

  • Heart palpitations

All of the above are inter-related because bad sleep quality can amplify any of the symptoms listed.

Good sleep and anxiety avoidance are key to ameliorating the effects of the Perimenopause. Many women experience disturbed sleep as a menopausal symptom which can have a significant effect on mood and energy levels and cause distress. In addition poor sleep can lead to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.

The science behind how the FemBev® Menopause range works

FemBev® Drink Mixes are comprised of a natural source tryptophan derived from organic pumpkin seeds. Natural Tryptophan, an essential amino acid our bodies only get from food sources, is light sensitive and metabolizes differently in light vs. dark conditions.

When taken during the day, the protein-source tryptophan in FemBev® becomes serotonin, which regulates mood, emotion, and appetite, and is well known to alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression.

When taken at night, this amino acid turns into serotonin, which then metabolizes into melatonin, a hormone that activates the brain’s sleep mechanisms.

Our brains are designed to regulate the production of melatonin properly so that just the right amount is used to promote sleep throughout the night.

Because FemBev® effectively coaxes the body to produce melatonin within the natural chemistry of our brain, it preserves natural sleep architecture and ensures safe and deep sleep.

As the brain produces the exact amount of melatonin that it requires, the body is primed for a natural, restful sleep. Melatonin, properly regulated by our brains, dissipates after exposure to light, eliminating feelings of drowsiness as well as the risk of dependence or tolerance.

Though pumpkin seeds are the main food ingredients in the FemBev® formulation, in a de-oiled pumpkin seed flour format, when ingested alone the protein still needs a little boost.

This is due to intense competition from other amino acids, which are also part of pumpkin seed protein, for access to transport sites across the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB).

FemBev®'s natural source of tryptophan is combined with other precise ingredients that help it to function optimally.

A small amount of a high glycemic index (GI) carbohydrate is specifically included in the formulation. Its role is to combine with the other amino acids and shunt them toward the liver, thus leaving tryptophan, which is largely protein-bound, with a clear advantage to get into the brain.

"Having suffered the effects of the menopause process for a couple of years, I jumped at the chance of being one of the triallists for FemBev products.

I made the chocolate drink up every evening. I made approx 2/3 of a mug to a scoop. I drank it 1/2 an hour to 1 hour before I went to bed. Those nights I slept more soundly, not waking during the night which I haven't been able to do for months. I actually felt rested when I woke in the mornings.

My night sweats hadn't woken me so I presume I hadn't had any! I still haven't tried the lemon flavour yet.

I think this product range is going to be very successful for many women!"
